In order to carry out the translation, do you need any information other than the actual document to be translated?

In order to ensure the highest quality, it is important for us to know the intended purpose and use of the document to be translated. This way of working together becomes the norm for regular customers.

Is it important to compile a glossary?

Glossaries are an essential tool to ensure continuity and consistency of language. They allow us to improve the overall quality of our translation service and always use the customer's specific terminology.

What is Computer Aided Translation (CAT)?

CAT (Computer Aided Translation) is software that creates an ideal working environment compatible with the specific requirements of translation. It maintains the page layout, helps translators (without, of course, replacing their indispensable professional skills) and allows:
- terminology to be consistent: the system makes it possible to update a specific terminology database;
- a team of translators to work on the same document at the same time while maintaining perfect consistency of terminology;
- the original formatting to be preserved: a special programme interface "hides" the formatting and style codes during translation and replaces them once it is complete.

Do you offer legalised or sworn translation services (birth certificates, marriage certificates, diplomas, wills, etc.), either sworn or not?

Yes, at the Court of Biella.

Do you also offer proofreading and revision of translations? Does this cost the same as translation?

"Revision" refers to reading, correcting and editing of a translation done by someone else. If the translation is of poor or mediocre quality, which can be the case with documents translated using automatic translation software or by non-native translators, we ask our customers to send us the original text as well. If the time required for the revision is similar to that required for carrying out a complete re-translation, we will inform the customer that the fee applied will be the same as that for a completely new translation.

Do you also translate personal documents such as certificates and academic diplomas?

Yes. Here is a list of some of the documents we translate (sworn translation if required):
Birth Certificates, Academic Certificates, Identity Documents, Marriage Certificates, Degree Certificates, Vehicle Registration Documents, Death Certificates, Academic Certificates, Specialist Qualification Certificates, Training Certificates, Driving Licences, Divorce Certificates, Curriculum Vitaes, Certificates of Pending Proceedings, Residence Certificates, Wills, Testimonials, Marital Status Certificates, Medical Certificates, Penal Certificates, Court Records, Vaccination Certificates.

What is the difference between translation and interpreting?

"Translating" means converting a text from its original (source) language into another (target) language, keeping the content and the meaning of the message intact.
"Interpreting", on the other hand, means orally transferring the meaning of a discussion from a source language to a target language, simultaneously, consecutively or by whispering.

Do you offer a simultaneous conference interpreting service?

Yes, although notice is required.

Where do you normally provide simultaneous conference interpreting services?

In Milan and Rome.

What is the difference between simultaneous, consecutive, chuchotage and liaison interpreting?

Simultaneous: this is suitable for conferences, seminars, large events and television and radio broadcasts. It requires sophisticated facilities and technical support, normally involving a booth and two simultaneous interpreters for each language. This type of translation requires an extremely high level of concentration, so simultaneous interpreters take turns, generally for about 20 minutes at a time, during which the resting interpreter helps the active one to consult the available material.
Consecutive
: consecutive interpreting is used in situations where no simultaneous booths are provided and when the audience is relatively small, or if translation into a single language is sufficient. The speaker can choose to pause after each sentence or at certain intervals or to give the entire talk while the consecutive interpreter takes notes.
Chuchotage
: this is required at conferences where an interpreter is needed due to the presence of a single person or a maximum of two people with different target languages. The interpreter sits behind the client(s) and "whispers" the simultaneous translation in the ear of the person concerned.
Liaison
: liaison interpreters provide language interpreting support during meetings, trade fairs, guided tours, contracting, training courses, interviews and in many other situations of that nature involving two or more people or a small group.

What makes a good interpreter?

In order to be a good interpreter, it is not enough to speak two or more foreign languages perfectly. A good interpreter must possess a balanced mix of skills and linguistic knowledge combined with outstanding personal qualities, communication skills and flexibility.
